I started digging over my new plot on Saturday and must have found the old potato bed as there was quite a few in the ground still (i know not to plant spuds there for a few years) and some of the spuds there had shoots on them so things are coming along i guess.  They was no deeper than a fork and a half deep and they were healthy looking spuds.  i think ours were in this time last year cant remember as my note keeping starts from March and there not on there.
Thanks
Kris

I realise my methods wouldn't work for you poor beggers in the midlands where you still have snow on the ground and your growing season is a month behind mine anway, but it works for me and last year I was digging 5lb of spuds per root from my first early's so I cant be doing much wrong just working with the conditions and weather we get down here in tropical Dorset.

Well I shall be sticking with my nice reliable date - Good Friday  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If it works for you paulw, then it works for you. But us who are 'ooop north' have to wait for the ground to warm up and the frost risk to reduce before we plant. I also don't have access to tons of straw to protect my plants so I'll start planting around mid March and do a row a week til the end of April. Works for me!  :)
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

Oh for heaven's sake Paul, this need not turn into a competitive thread.  As DD. has pointed out, there was a sense of tongue in cheek in my comment.
