cooking down the lotty
« on: February 07, 2010, 18:16 »
Last year on bonfire night I took my double camping stove and gas bottle down to the lotty, I had a rotten shed to burn and decided to invite some friends down for a chilli and jacket potatoes ( cooked in the incinerator), drinks and bonfire.
At the time the stove was just thrown to the back of the shed ( too many glasses of red to be bothered at the time).
When clearing out the shed the other day I found the stove and decided this year I'm going to start cooking produce straight off the plant and have my lunch down the ground on certain days.
Who's cooked/partied on the allotment and what did you cook?
Bonfire night was a total washout by the way (weather wise anyway) apart from that a good time was had by all.

I'm banned for being obnoxious (not pompous as you might have thought)

I haven't tried it yet, but they say to take the pan to the sweetcorn, not the other way round.

May just take the motorhome down there this year and throw some straight into boiling water.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Next time you throw a party on the plot, make it themed. Such as a " Let`s Dig A Canal To The Plot " theme.

Hi Issac, I only got my lotty end of August and had to do loads of work to it, to get it in some sort of order.  I havn`t cooked down there yet, but have brought a small bbq and its in the shed ready for them warm summer days and nights.  My hubby and I usually go down there about 3.00 on a sunday afternoon, armed with a can of Mckewens for him and a flask with a drop of rose wine for me,  it such a peacefull place, just can not wait till it warms up a bit.  Mandy

My friend and I eat down the plot every sunday (in the plotting shed, not the potting shed )
Sausage butties, bacon butties, garlic spam (fried) butties, and today it was spicy Jamaican pasties (warmed on the solid fuel stove) and army rations - steak, veg and potato and chicken and dumplings. Not forgetting the frequent cups of tea, we have the solid fuel stove and a gas stove.
Dean.

I'm with you Ms Mandy Lupin,
I love few thing better than sitting down the lotty (nice weather preerable but not neccessary), glass of homebrew in hand and looking at my plot admiring what I have already done and planning what is still to do.
Spring can't come soon enough for me  :)

On our allotment site we do have a large chalet which is the focal point for any allotment get together. There's Bar- B - Q's all cooked on the presidents gas Barbie and Fish and chips evenings.[ Not cooked on site]
On our plot I've only got as far as brewing tea or cup a soup.

When the children were little we always used to take food for the whole day, the old primus stove etc all on the pram and off we'd go.

Omelettes were the best of all, and neighbours used to find it convenient to drop by right as they came out of the pan

Can't wait to have a plot again

(current one is at work)

My camping stove is a permanent fixture on my plot - essential for tea breaks. I also cooked some hotdogs for me and my son this weekend! Ive got plans to take my portable weber bbq down this summer - if we get any decent weather that is. ::)
