Buy them now. Start the chitting process. The longer you leave it the later you will get your crop.

I am a new girl to both growing and the forums but have a 2 grandmas that are itching to help me"!
If I plant the early potatoes now, will they be done in time to plant the later crop?

Don't even think about planting now. The frost will get them for sure.

Late March is early enough for me in the Midlands.

Late - or maincrop take longer to grow and are planted about the same times as the others.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You don't wait for the earlies to crop before planting main crop.
Plant all potatoes in succession. The main crop take longer to crop than the earlies.

1st earlies, then 2nds, then mains are all planted at the same time, or within a few weeks of each other. It is just that the later sorts take a  longer time to grow to maturity :)

i started chitting my potatos today.. My first time!! :) Some have a good few mm of white shoots growing already so im hoping these stay short and stocky! Is it best to leave them rather than twisting them off ?

My other half loves the trays of potatos on top of the bedroom cupboard!  ;)

It might be a little warm up there. They would be better somewhere frost free but cooler.

Our bedroom doesnt really get that warm sadly.. we dont have central heating we have hot air heating.. which is great if your room has a vent.. sadly our bedroom doesnt!!!

Ill see how they get on anyway.. what happens if they get too warm ?

If they get too warm they will produce long shoots (chits) which break off when you try to plant them. The tubers may also dry out a little and go soft.
