Desperate measures
« on: January 08, 2010, 12:30 »
The snow still contiues and I'm still at home. My house has never been so tidy

SO I went out the the garage, finished labelling those last few jars of chutney and jam while I can still remember which is which (lots went for presents but these are ours and don't need posh labels  ;) )

Sorted all the rest of the empty jars to make sure they had proper useful lids and put out for recycling anything unusable.

Jelly cupboard looks good, hands are numb but at least I have done something  :D :D

Oh Sunshine I am sooo bored as well  :( Lot's of sewing but m/c is in spare bedroom...no heating on Brrrr
Maybe I'll make some bread......I don't need it (knead it  ::) ) as I still have some in the freezer, but will be something to do and the heat from the oven would be nice ::)
I have just finished sanding the inside of the back door, but decided it is too cold to apply the wood stain :(
I even finished reading my last library book last night and don't think it's worth risking the icy pavement just to collect a paper.....
and they think we have another week to 10days of it still to come   :(

Still at least we can watch all those wonderful programmes on TV/Sky..................perhaps NOT :nowink:

Yeh just had our first post for several days. Thankfully the UPS man came yesterday with my new (well new to me) chunky knitting machine so I have been playing with that all morning. Now need my wool to come so my husband and I can have nice new woolly jumpers if this weather stays!
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

Or nice new cotton ones if it ever gets warmer.... :)

We are all getting desparate, I've been to the unheated "utility room" in the part of the house that we haven't tamed yet, damp, cold and visited by rats  and I've sorted it out for as long as I could stand being in there.

I've been to the bottom of the freezer out there and found stuff that is past it's best and turned it into a random soup which has come out really well, it's one of those never to be repeated recipes, "a handful of this, a block of that and a sprinkle of the other".

I spent the afternoon cleaning out six of my 12 coops. Had hoped to put it off, but the bedding is now damp, and they will get ill. Lots of deep hemcore for them. Whilst doing that, inspected each choock, cleaned their feet etc. Of my baby/young silkies i hatched, i can see at least 3/12 are boys i think.

will have to do the other 6 coops tomoz, (I usually do them all on a saturday, but its too cold to be out there ALLday. :(

We had half the fridge soup to use up all the odds and ends and home made bread for tea. That occupied a bit of time in the kitchen.  OH now lay on the sofa groaning after pigging out.

We got our first post for days today and got my seeds from Simpsons :D  That's all my seeds for this season now.  Cleaned out the chicks and tried to knock some of the snow out of the gutters. We have a section at the side of our house collapsed now   Can't do much until it thaws - just hope it's superficial damage.

I do hope it is just the guttering that's collapsed not part of your house

I guess it must be as you are so calm about it  :) :)

yes only guttering  I hope. Might be a few slates moved a bit  ::)

Saw your post on shortages in the shops. Yell if you get really stuck for supplies as OH has a 4 wheel drive and can ferry you to the shops if need be.
