Black Poplar tree??
« on: November 08, 2009, 20:35 »
Parents are having one pruned back quite hard and the resulting wood chips are up for grabs.

They will be fresh and I have nowhere to dry them.... is it best to pass on them or could they still make a nice bed in the stable where the silkies are currently living??

I dont even know if the tree is poisonous :(
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

OH is in tree business so use wood chips quite a bit, but never fresh. All the sap realeased mean they heat up and start composting almost instantly and that would not be good for your chicks.

If you have a spare corner or garden, stack them up and leave for 6 months. They don't need to be kept dry really.

Thank you very much :)

I will probably pass on them then.... plenty of spare corners around the yard, but the hassle of getting them there would be too much if I cant use them now :(

Impatient??  Moi??  Surely not

I thought that if I spread them straight on the ground and not too thick they might be ok.... but dont want to do anything to risk my silkie babies ::)
