Black poo
« on: June 01, 2011, 21:50 »
One of the big chickens has had black poo for a couple of days, its not in the regular spectrum of normal for our hens and I couldn't see an example in the information photos.

It looks a bit like tar and is in small amounts.  None of the hens are of their food or water and are all behaving as normally.

Any suggestions?
May this day be blessed with gifts, understanding and friends.  Merlin 2001-2012 Pandora 2001-2013 xxx

They're in the back garden so the only berries would be blackberries but they're not out yet.

I don't know about the smell, I'm confined to bed :(

Just waiting for Ali to upload picture :D

whilst not meaning to worry you (but I know it will do sorry) if there are still samples of the black tar pooh tomorrow I would suggest a trip to your vets (take a pooh sample with you). In humans black tar type of pooh can be a sign of blood (if it is black it can be from the upper digestive tract and red/maroon is from the lower part). I am not saying this is the problem but best to rule it out.

I''ll try to identify the hen in the morning.  Having looked at the photo there looks as if there's a worm in the bottom left, they were wormed about a month ago so would that be possible?

yes it is possible if they had a bad infestation or if in contact with wild birds.
