Unknown Pest!
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:19 »
Hi all,
I was hoping you could help.
I have found small pests on various plants but I cannot identify them.  They are pink, about 1cm long about 1mm wide, have legs and antenae. I have found them in near the roots of onions, garlic and leeks. I have also found them in potatoes and they other day there were a few in some strawberries.
I'm not sure if they are eating their way in or just getting in through slug damage.
Unfortunately I could take a piture due to their size (and not having a macro lens).
I really hope someone can help. I have pend some time searching in google but can't find anything that looks similar.
Many thanks.

They may be millepedes. Is the body round cross section or flat? How many legs do they have? Are these all at the front or spread all along? Do they have spots along their sides?

They don't have spots. The body is round. I think they have lots of legs all along the body.
Millipedes were my first thought but none of the pictures I can find of millipedes look quite the same. That might just be because they are so small!

I'm sure it is not wire worms.
I think it might be a snake millipede. Just trying to search for more information now.
