came accross this on another site:

question I have - would you plant on the inside or the outside of the archway?

And if on the outside, is it sensible to put a row of lettuce or similar on the inside????

Thanks!! :D

Regardless, I'd plant the peas on the outside and the lettuce inside. Lettuce prefers a bit of shade from the hot sun so it doesn't bolt too quickly.

Very pretty, but like AS says a little flimsy esp if on an open allotment, but like Trill says

same goes for lettuce inside your runner bean tunnel or amongst your sweetcorn.

I did a bean arch last year from two cheap rose arches and some canes - it's in the album from about this time last year. It worked quite well and is good for over a path.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

That's the idea and it looks quite good with all the beans growing. I grew cucumbers up the bottom as well.
Took a bit of feeding and watering though.

I've a tray of cucumbers that I grew indoors looking ready for planting out now so maybe a mix of those and lettuce inder sturdy hoops is th answer.

My beds are pretty sheltered so not tooooooo concerned about rigity of the frames.

haha - famous last words eh?

I think that means I could plant ROCKET under my Munty's hockey sticks frame.
My first rocket flowered very soon in the sunshine. Is this the same as "bolting"

I was surprised to find cucumbers easy to grow - Masterpiece were good and some other ones whose name escapes me. Just tie em up and they'll be fine.
