Quinces
« on: September 12, 2009, 16:13 »
I've got a small tree that is starting to really produce now, but need some advice.

Last year I left the fruits on the tree as long as possible, as per what the books say.  The fruit did not get frosted, but when I harvested it I found big brown patches of rot inside - no marks on the skin.  What went wrong & how do I prevent it this year?

Can't remember what variety it was but they are pear shaped quinces.

I have purchased quinces and found them like this when cut open.  I think that they got chilled.

Here is some info that might help you about quinces -- they certainly shouldn't have brown parts in them.

They are lovely cooked with apples in a pie  :D
