I got 2, week old goslings today but they wont take any food what should I try (using organic chick crumbs at the moment) they just cry the whole time unless I cuddle them. HELP please.
I am worried as they may dehydrate tried dipping their beaks in but they won't drink

Are they too cold, I wonder?

I am sure WG is correct in suggesting that they are too cold.  At a week old they still need to be under a heat lamp at about 33 or 34 degrees. The temperature  should only be reduced very slowly until they have their feathers at about 6-8 weeks and then they still might need a bit of heat. If they are distressed (which their cheeping suggests) then they won't be interested in feeding.

Time is of the essence to get them comfortable - I am sure you could rig something up indoors with a table lamp for tonight.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Dawn

well done whisky think you hit the nail on the head  there, I have cuddled them warmer then put them in a box of hay by the boiler and they have perked up no end.  They both had a few crumbs and some water so I can now go to bed happy they have eaten.  I am taking them in my bedroom so if they wake up I can make sure they are ok, could be making a rod for my back here!!

I have a lamp which my OH made me for the ducklings it has a red lamp in so I will use that too, they seem so much happier now.  They love to curl up on my neck and keep chewing me its so cute.

thanks everyone for the help
Sandra

Are they cute or what!?!   The third one (on far right) looks like he might have problems with the swimming lessons ...

Yes they are georgeous explains why Icouldnt resist even though I said I would stop buying any more pets.

I will not be having the red light on in my room Whisky!!  They have heating in there and a hot water bottle wrapped well in a towel.

Rmember my little chick who died well the other one has thrived and is not nearly fully feathered. a proper character too.

Nowt wrong with a little emotional blackmail, eh!

Fact is that I thought the public warning was completely unwarranted ... here's me doing my "good citizen" bit by trying to save Sandra from some unwanted guests.   I reckon Aunty is power mad.  Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
