As the mass of vines have been a floating mulch. Can I rotavate/dig them into the soil rather than the compost heap?

I don't really know the answer to that one but as a guess if they are slimey they would be part composted already  :) but you could try and let us know the outcome, i also expect it depends what you want to grow afterwards beans and the like don't seem to mind green waste  :unsure:

Yes you can; they will be mush as soon as the frost hits anyway.
