Oh I love that joke!  So my one month old chicks that keep climbing on their mum's back are omens of things to be.  Two cockrels by the sound of it.  At least they leave the little bantam frizzle chick alone.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Most cockerels don't start crowing til about sunrise and if you put blackout up you can normally kid them to stay quiet a bit longer. However i have had the odd one that will start crowing at 1.00 AM  >:( and unfortunately for them i will not put up with that so they go in the pot!).
Just be aware that it could be noisy and a bad time keeper.

All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Many thanks for your input.

I live in the country with no immediate neighbours so dont have that worry.  I will carry on thinking about it for now and not rush into anything.

I love my boys too, but my Pekin [Frizzle] cockerel was a devil when he free ranged with all the girls, but hes lovely now in a large run with 3 girls. He is rather loud and 'shrill' though
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)

We were given our boy 'Dexter' about nine months ago. I didnt really want him but the husband said the girls would like some male company so i let him get on with it. When we went to pick him up he was secured in a box so we didnt see him till we got home. God he was huge i thought we had an ostrich instead!
It's taken a while for him to settle  but im glad we have him, he is stunning to look at. He didnt crow for about a month but now he does it on and off all day and once at bedtime. Luckily we are in the country. My only regret is im not as close to my girls now as he gets upset and has chased me on many occassions

I'm not 'experienced' but I can tell you about my experience.

I had a trio and the cockerel, who did seem to be very active, made the girls backs bare. This may also have been down to his own inexperience. As he turned out to be very nasty to humans we had to cull him anyway. Remember though not all cockerels are like this and we are trying again with another cockerel and some extra hens.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

If you need a pekin cockerel I can help you with that, have 6 lavs and some blacks and gold birchen cocks here free to good home.

Bred from well mannered stock, no agressive birds get to breed here:)

I would think that there are more  good ones than bad.

Absolutely right. I hatched eggs from by aggressive cockerel and will eat the cocks that hatched - well at least that's the plan. I feel that even if I could rehome some of them I would not want the aggressive gene to go forward into other flocks. There was only one hen - sods law - and I will keep her myself and not breed from her. :) :)
