I have grown fennel for first time. Does anone know when to pick?

As soon as it starts making a decent size bulb. Don't delay!

I had a beautiful half row but waited too long - vaguely thinking it would bulb up in Autumn like celeriac. We got five lovely bulbs and the rest bolted.
