Got 300 spare?

I don't know ;) as usual you have only planted half the quantity of leeks you will actually need... you always do that

The only reason for using toilet roll centres is to blanch the lower part of the leek. If planted the traditional way though, the centres aren`t needed. Another veg which needs blanching is celery.

we used the toilet rolls to plant the leeks in, filled with compost, then just replanted directly into the soil.
better start saving some more to go round the outside.

I did the same Grumpydad.  I did take them out when planting them though as I put them in a dibbed hole.  I put the toilet rolls on today so thanks for the idea.  I will try and remember to take the camera down to the plot tomorrow to show you what it looks like.  I have about 40 leeks and they are doing quite well.

I'm a bit confused. Do you put the toilet roll around instead of digging them up and dropping them in a hole or a sort of combination of the two?

I find loo rolls too small and they rot off quickly and they have fungicides in which can affect some plants.  I scavenge old rainwater pipe from skips and cut this into foot long lengths and simply use these as a collar - it blanches the leeks and allows plenty of room for them to grow and the occasional feed down the tube.... but mostly I leave 'em to it. Leeks are probably the easiest veg to grow, hardly anything eats them and disease free, easypeezee...
