shortening tomato trusses
« on: August 09, 2009, 11:38 »
i'm growing a few tomatoes in greenhouse and although i'm feeding them with my own concoctions and they're doing well, there's a few very long trusses (nearly two feet!)

The first half of the truss has set fruit and the rest has the flowers.  i'm not sure how much energy the plants have left, and i'm wondering if it would it be ok to chop off halfway along the truss or would it cause disease?  thanks.

If theyre cherry tomatoes, Id leave them on, if "normal" tomatoes, shorten a bit.

You must be the Northenmost tomato-grower of the forum  :D :D

depending on whether they are cherries or normal toms, if you get too long a truss you can end up with small fruit, i often shorten my trusses with no problems.
