Hazelnut pest
« on: August 08, 2009, 15:23 »
Hi

We have picked up some windfalls from our hazelnut tree and there are lavae in them or they have small little holes in the shells.  It appears to be Curculio nucum larvae which eats the nut from the inside out.

Could anyone tell me what I should do as I understand that the pest lives in the ground overwinter.  I would prefer an organic treatment.

Many thanks

I have no idea but ours for the last two years has been very poor.  We have put it down to the weather ( rainy).  Thought this year we may get a few more as it was supposedly going to be drier (haha) but now crunch our way off the drive.  So sorry I can't help any more.
