Full English (including the toms)
« on: August 08, 2009, 10:16 »
Had a full English breakfast this morning with the first of the plum tomatoes from the greenhouse instead of the usual tinned ones. I have grown this variety for 2 years now and they are great, better than tinned toms from places that get much more sun than us,  not particularly  heavy croppers but the toms grow as big as your fist.

They are AMISH PASTE red plum tomatoes, seeds from REAL SEEDS. :)

Later in the year i was going to ask people to recommend a plum tomato, i have grown San Marzano. Again, not heavy croppers and they are nowhere near turning colour, they are also very tall...........couldn't tell you about taste as have only grown them in greece before, bound to be different without all the sun :( Am also growing 1 purple ukraine which is a plum...huge yield, but again nowhere near ripe :(

All in all well done you for having some ripe ones that you are able to recommend :D  and now i know what i'll have for tea........a full English

I have grown San Marzano for some years in the greenhouse.  As you say they grew very tall, did not crop heavily and were also prone to blossom end rot.

This year I have grown San Marzano Redorta from Seeds of Italy.  They are carrying a huge crop with no sign of blossom end rot and we are already putting helpings of tomato pasta sauce in the freezer.

Cheers,

Gillie
