are my tomato plant to big for my pots??
« on: July 14, 2009, 17:20 »
Hi all,

Ive got my tomato plants in 25cm pots (the black sankey ones)  but the roots are starting to pop through the bottom a little!  Does this mean that i need to get a bigger pot to put them in as i have read that this size is fine?  Shoul i maybe try planting them in the ground?  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.  Oh the also have tomatoes on them  ( lots...yummy! :D )

Steph

Those pots are fine to use.  The roots from the bottom are just looking for water.  Are the pots standing in a tray or waterproof container?
Cheese makes everything better.

If you can find something to stand them in it would be better.  Tomatoes are watered from the bottom and fed from the top of the soil usually.

ah ok i'll give it a try then, i should probably also point out that there are some root coming out the top of the soil, is this just because they are coming up for water?

No, just add some more compost to the top if you have some.
