I've never grown strawberries myself - just helped a friend with his - there is a pic of the sort of planter we made in the allotment album - he grew Cambridge Favorite, which tasted lovely straight off the plant.

But my favourite are the small wild alpine ones I found on the heath by the office where I work.  Great afternoon snack sat at my desk.

Hi WG

This year I am growing Honeoye and Symphony - neither of which I have tasted before. I bought three plants from a flower shop a few years ago and when I asked what variety they were, they couldn't tell me because they had no labels on them...but they were very nice  :D , especially with ice-cream.
So to answer your question....well, I can't really   . Hopefully I will know more in a few months time when my present crop have grown and been tested by yours truly (with ice-cream, of course)  :)

Try the Mara strawberries (Mara des bois)...very popular in France.  It's a new variety hybrid with wild strawberries, gets the excellent flavour of the wild ones and the size of the usual ones.  Also comes twice a year:early and late summer.  Good crops as well.  I've bee growing some for 3 years now and I'm very happy with them...I look for advices to avoid the problem of woodlices eating strawberries at the moment.  Any suggestion?
