Pinching out the tips of runner beans
« on: July 04, 2009, 13:31 »
I have built a wigwam which my runners have climbed (about 7ft) The plant wants to keep going but I would rather contain it in one spot. If I pinch out the growing stems, will this encourage the beans to grow better or will this harm the development ?

pinch it out and the plant will grow no more ,

leave it and you will get a few more beans,

when you pinch them out it causes new buds to break and grow lower down, so it gets a bit bushier and you should get more beans on the lower growth :)
