enviro mesh
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:49 »
i have been interested in using the mesh for a while now,and was reading the posts about it etc etc.
everything i grow is done in my raised bed 32ft x18ftx1ft(with a 2ft gravel path completly around it) and a dedicated runner bean bed 32ftx4ftx1ft,(i understand why its a no no to cover plants that require pollination).
my main question from the pics ive seen is,some of you guys lay the mesh over your plants and some have is raised above (like a fruit net idea)is there a reason for the 2 methods or simply a personal choice?

p.s the reason i chose to do my beds so big is its never seems to stop raining in Coalville  :) this way it allows me to work my garden all year round its all in my back garden = double bonus.

regards steve

A question of choice. Cages are easier to manage.

Some crops such as cabbage and carrots grow happily with net or fleece draped over them. Others like onions or peas need it lifting away from them

Enviromesh tend to chafe things if it is windy.  Fleece is kinder, but liable to tear.  So as Salmo says it is a matter of choice and experience.
