One not laying yet
« on: June 29, 2009, 13:52 »
Hi.   :)
I recently bought my first 4 chucks at POL.
They are Isa browns, and three of them have been laying now for about 4 weeks, but one is still not laying. She, (Barbara), is the same size as the rest so she is obviously getting enough food, and I make a special effort to make sure she gets her share of extra greens. She seems to be a bit of a loner and she seems really slow when extras are scattered in. there can be food thrown right at her feet and the other chucks that may be yards away will get the food before she does. Is it possible she is mentally slow? (if that's possible with a chuck) I mean, they are not the most intelligent of animals at the best of times are they, But she seems like a real bird brain.
Any ideas?
Cheers.
Andy.

Hi Andy

Welcome to the Hen House :)

In regards her laying is her comb the same as the others colour wise & size?
What do you feed them?
Are they free range or in a run?

Try putting out another feeder then she might just get a chance to eat :)

Sarah :D

i have had 12 hens for over a year now , yet i have averaged 10 eggs a day when they have been laying {health problems with hens along the way} .
yet today we got our first 12 eggs in a day from those 12 hens  , we recently got another7 hens but their kept apart from the others and are too young  to lay .but don't expect every hen to lay every day because it does not happen like that getting 6 eggs a week from a hen would be a good result.

Hi Sarah & Bubbs.
Thanks for your reply's.
They are in a run part of the day and free range part of our garden when we're about.
There's always a full feeder with BOCM layers pellets, so I'm sure she is getting enough to eat. her colm isn't as well developed as the other three, but it's ............. hold on! Well, hows that for timing.
I've just got a text from my wife at home. It says "I have just collected eggs, FOUR of them".
I guess this post is concluded then.
Thanks all. :) :)
