Hi, i have just brought 5 hybrid 2 week old chicks from a farm, i have been told they are all female are were sexed at 1 day old by the hatchery. Does anyone else have any experience of this, how much of a risk am I running of getting a male. thanks for you help.

Hi Animal mad.  If they are brown hybrids, they are pretty much guaranteed to be female, but if they are white like the Amberlinks, there is a chance of getting a cockerel as they are feather sexed and sometimes little boys do sneak in!  The brown hybrids however are colour sexed at hatching, so the girls are brown and usually the boys are yellow at hatching, so they are culled staight away!

Thanks for your help, i have 2 columbian black tail, one white one , and two black ones with one tuffs on the head.

Oh trust you to get the one hybid I've never had before!!!! lol 

Our hatchery hatch CBT's, so I'll try to think to ask them tomorrow how they are sexed.  Hopefully they are colour sexed.

The white one was probably feather sexed, so I wouldn't like to say and I don't know with the black ones.  They could be an araucana cross?  In which case I have no idea!  But someone else might!

thanks for your help, i guess i will just have to wait till they grow up. i think the black ones may be cou cou maran.
