You said you had blackcurrant bush also, that is almost certainly what it is ,or maybe they got the labels wrong and it could be a red currant. One things for sure it is not a raspberry.

Crush a leaf between your fingers.  If it smells strongly it is a blackcurrant bush.  If there is no smell it is a red or white currant.  You have a lot of young growth on that bush.  This should crop next year.

Raspberries do not form 'bushes' they are a collection of 'canes', really straggly stalks, which come straight up from the ground.

Cheers,

Gillie

Thats a redcurrant, in my ill informed opinion.
It should grow and crop like mad.
Mines invaded a blackberries space and is not so slowly killing it.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

Ahhh, I did say say I knew nothing didn't I? They must be my redcurrant bushes then, and the raspberry is the other one by my goosberry bush. Ok, well that doesn't have anything on either. heeheh.

Feeling very stupid at the moment, , but at least I know now, you learn something every day.

Thanks to all, I am grateful for all your advice, and will keep asking!

My goodness.  Feeling sorry isn't allowed.  This is a forum where people help share  and above all on the most part CARE!!!

Not one person is laughing !  (I hacked all their webcams to check... and I iron in the undies as well missus). Seriously, people read the forums that have been gardening or farming or chicken keeping for years and I am sure they still learn things all the time as well as being able to offewr advice.

It's not called an online community for nothing.

Keep asking away!!

Don't feel stupid, i have 4 bushes in the corner of my garden that i have NO CLUE what they are, they are either (raspberries, blackberry's, redcurrants or Blackcurrant) i bought 2 of each

2 died,  2 i think are the raspberries thanks to the discriptions on this thread, which still leaves me with 4 mystery bushes (better than the 6 i had this morning) they are in thier first year so no fruit yet... who knows what i'll get  :tongue2:

"Feeling sorry isn't allowed."

Indeed, the site only works because ask about things they dont know.

You asking why your raspberries werent fruiting taught you they were actualy currants AND taught me that you can tell a currant by crushing its leaves.

So had you not asked, you would have deprived me of knowledge, useful knowledge.
