Garlic in their diet?
« on: June 18, 2009, 17:48 »
Hi all, I have heard that Garlic in a chickens diet is good for them, similar to ourselves I guess. The thing is, how to add it to the diet. I assume I would crush a Garlic clove a day and mix it in with the pellets? Anyone got more info on this please.
Andy.

Hi ANdy. Welcome  :)

If you crush it and add it to their water it makes it easier.

I add Baileys Garlic Supplement (it's for horses) to their pellets.  Don't use powdered garlic as it goes claggy and hard at the bottom of the feeder

Baileys is a fibre with the garlic extract added to it and the garlic oil soaks into the pellets.

I was told to put it in their water too.

Also, "during the war", apparently it was used as a natural wormer.  Not sure if that's classed as sufficient these days for a wormer but it has to help surely?

Get out the garlic!  :D

Oh yes, sorry.  About 1 small clove crushed between two hens be OK or is that a bit much?

LOLOLOL My imagination ran riot imagining 2 portly hens, tummy to tummy trying to crush a clove of garlic between them.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
At the entrance to our local tip, there's a big sign saying Heavy Plant Crossing.  How much must a plant weigh before they put a sign up for it to have the right of way?  :D :D :D

OK, bit of a slip, but it was funny, quite intentional of course!

I have always loved the Heavy plant crossing, never seen one though (a heavy plant crossing the road that is!), must be a left over from the triffids!

I buy the garlic powder and sprinkle it into their water and give it a really good stir.   Nickyx
