Hi
I planted a clove of a supermarket garlic in mid march in my high rise bed.  Was just seeing what happened really first thing I planted.  Well they came up really quick lovely green shoots.  Will they be no good cos planted at wrong time I think :?: Have heard you plant in autumn.

 Shoots?? There will be one shoot from one clove.  Did you plant the whole head undivided?

No meant to say planted three cloves.  Each has a shoot about 6" long.

I've also planted some garlic that i brought back from France (more authentic, of course!!) but I did mine in Feb - it also has sprouted shoots, which started as one, but now looks kinda like a daffodil...

Lift in mid-July when foliage dies back.  You will probably get a single, large clove from each.  Either eat or replant in Aug/Sep/Oct/Nov (not critical)

I meant to add.  A hardneck variety will push up a flowering stem (scape) in June.  This should be removed immediately (they are edible).

they need to experience a frost to produce the cloves,like w.g said,you will get just a single round bulb,still tasty but not very big :)
