Crows/Rooks whatever they are called
« on: June 10, 2009, 09:19 »
I am having a major problem with crows, they are eating my chicken pellets, have attacked my onions, got into the greenhouse and tried to eat my cucumbers and now to top it all, they have taken three baby robins from the nest box in my garden.

They are doing damage as well as costing me money.  Has anyone any ideas about getting rid of them?  Apart from shooting them is there any other method???

A plastic owl may work for a while but you need to move it around.
If you do end up with the air rifle  hang a tin can in a safe spot so that if you miss or ricochet no damage is done. The pellet hitting the tin can is often enough to keep them away.

I have had similar problems with magpies.

If you have an allotment, check you tenancy agreement that you are able to shoot, cos we're not allowed.  Luckily plenty of cats stroll around so usually they don't hang around.

I used a plastic owl and it put them off for about 20 minutes.  The other day there was a jackdaw standing on its head. ::)
Cheese makes everything better.

crows are a very brave bird,, owl will not stop this type of behaviour for long unless you are very lucky,, best way is shooting them or if poss disturbing the nest (s) which is usually damn near impossible,,
