Sprouts like heavy soil, so that's a good start.

Nelson & Trafalgar did well for me last year, but it is very late to be thinking about sowing & you may have to be content with whatever plants you can get this year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yes, both F1's

I start them in the cold greenhouse in March in modules, one seed per cell, pot them on into 3" pots, harden off and were planted out about 2 weeks ago.

"yes got 2 lots in, eavsham special & bedford fill basket."

I bought plants of Beford Fillbasket from garden centre last year (all projects were behind hand, so no seed sown :(), I thought they were very good so have grown them from seed this year.

Did a trial last year, regret i have lost the notes of all that i tried, but the one i am going with this year is Maximus.
At this stage they are looking very good indeed.

I'm growing F1 Carlton Leeks next year. I have grown Mussleburgh for as along as I can remember, but after much deliberation I am changing to Carlton.

The fact that a pack of Carlton seeds came free with John's book has completely swayed me :D
