Lawn treatment
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:40 »
The lawn had its quarterly weed n feed yesterday. I was planning to confine the girls to base for a couple of days while the stuff that the firm that does the lawn (Topgrass) puts down disintegrates / gets absorbed. The guy that put it down swore it was pet/kid friendly but the idea of the ladies eating weedkiller just doesn't sound right. ANyone have any eggsperience of this?

I treated my lawn yearly with 'weed and feed' yet since the girl have arrived i have steered against it. they are in the run aswell with little free range.
Although child and pet friendy, I figure that whatever chemicals are fed in to the grass leaves will be fed into the hens. I wouldn't let my girls eat range on treated grass for at least 6 months as that is how long the treatment would be good for.
Someone else will be able to clarify more surely :)

Get more chooks and they will fertilise the lawn for you the natural way :)

The answers always get more chooks :)

But seriously I would keep them off the grass for a few days.

The run for our 2 girlies, rests on the lawn.  We move them every 2 days, to allow them to scratch in different places, hense protecting the lawn a little.  I'd also like to use 'weed and feed' on the lawn, but have put off.  The advise from maybe a vet or someone with definate knowledge of this stuff would be helpful.  Lets keep our fingers crossed, and hope we get the proper advice.   At the foot of this page there was an advert for free vet help. I promptly went onto it, only to discover it wasn't free at all.
