.. are you allowed to keep (legally) on an allotment? Our allotment officer says 6 but I have heard that it could be as many as 49! Anything more than that is considered a small holding? Am I right or wrong - can she make up the rules or can we allotmenteers override her (nicely of course!)

I haven't got chickens myself - just curious for other lotty folk.

It may depend on each individual allotment, some may not allow chickens at all. If you have 50 you have to be defra registered, (this can be a total of an assortment of hens, ducks geese etc if you so wish). Hope this helps, but like I say it really will be upto the different sites.

i would say most councils will have a limit on what u have , so far i have 22 birds but thats my limit and the council have said nothing as they know my girls are very spolited and it helps that they have had nothing but good feedback about the way the girls are kept . some places u can have 50 or more but it all depends on the amount of space there is .
