Tomatoes outside in pots
« on: May 28, 2009, 20:06 »
Hello everyone!

My greenhouse tomatoes are looking good. All of the ones I planted have taken. So the toms I sowed as spares are looking for a home.

They're healthy, happy Gardener's Delight (mmmm  :tongue2:) and I was wondering if I could plant them in a giant green bucket I have (actually it came from Majestic as an ice bucket with 4 cases of party wine) and grow them in a sheltered spot.

What is your experience of tomatoes in containers, please?

Many thanks!

My Gardener`s Delight are growing quite happily in containers, which is where they`ll stay. :D

If it's about the size of a large tatty old pot or normal bucket us lesser mortals can afford, no reason why not, but I wouldn't put more than one plant in it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My 'extras' always end up outside in pots.....usually a later harvest than those in the g/h but usable none the less.......better than throwing them away

I always put mine in pots they are tween 7.5 ltrs and 9 ltres. 7.5 being my ideal.  When I went to wyevales the other day they had loads of old plastic pots you could take they were by the compost bags.  I asked first!!

Mine are grown in pots in the back yard.  Just make sure you put drainage holes in the bucket first.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
