seed bed roll
« on: May 27, 2009, 16:17 »
I get this catalogue and it has all sorts of gardening things in it and there is something new in it called a seedbed roll you just roll the lining down then cover in soils and just let it grow

Here is the link:http://www.organiccatalogue.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=seedbed&search_in_description=0&x=0&y=0
It comes in 4 different variates and looks great. Im thinking of buying one because they do a salad version  :)

It's humongously expensive pp.  Salad is so easy and cheap to grow.  You could get dozens of packets of seed for that price.  :(

My mum bought me one of these as a present some years ago and I was shocked  at the price. This one was flowers and she thgouh it would save me a lot of work. Lovely thought, but rather a waste of money because the plants weren't ever that great.

You can buy such interesting salad mixes now that IMHO it's much better to sow the seed, just like Aunt Sally says  :D

Too right.

15 quid for just over a square metre?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I know A.S but i think its expensive because you dont need to weed it or realy care for it as much as you would with normal seeds

You'll still get weeds. The seed blow in on the wind.

It'll still need watering.

To put it bluntly - utter rip off!

Sorry to be a bit dim here pumpkinpatch but don't you still need to water it? TBH that's all I do with my salad from seed, oh and pick it and eat it of course  :D

I do see your point that you don't have to actually plant it but you do have to cover it with soil -- at least if it's the same as the one with flowers that I had

You could buy enough seed to feed hundreds for £15

Yeah youv all got your points im sure the price will go down in time its sort of like that ready rolled puff pastry it seems good but when you get it out its not as big as if you would buy a chunk of puff pastry then rolled it out as iv found out on previous cooking experiences
