Samphire?
« on: May 27, 2009, 10:03 »
Has anyone grown this? I believe it needs sandy soil and to be watered with a salt water solution. Would this cause long term problems if I planted straight into the ground or should I go into a container?

It's natural habitat is beach so I'm not sure if we could recreate the correct growing environment for it.  Expensive to buy though as much of the year it comes from Spain but you can pick it off the beach if you can find it, Suffolk and Norfolk for example  :)  We can get it via the deli here but I don't think it's available all year round. Not that keen on it to be honest  :)

Sorrel is a bit similar and you can buy seeds of that. I got some from an Italian place.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
