Does size really count??
« on: April 03, 2007, 18:49 »
I got my first egg today!!

Not sure which of the three hens i have was responsible but nice to see that they are starting to lay. Now i don't mean to seem ungrateful and i am sure she put her heart and soul into that little egg. Thats the point you see, it was a really 'little' egg. In fact, i have rarley seen such a small egg. Do they get bigger as the hens grow ? They seem pretty big birds already. Anyhoo any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What a clever chicken  :D

They often start by laying small eggs.  With a bit more practice she'll get the size right.   Collecting eggs is just the best feeling absolute MAGIC  :D

I have 2 starlights and one hybrid brown. One of the starlights has a very red comb - perhaps it might be her?? The other starlight has almost no comb at all so i guess she is still very young. The Hybrid brown has a small comb but it is not pink yet so i guess she is young to?

one of mine is laying really diddy eggs; but hers are all yolk and no white; I presumed that this was because she's a young un, but as I haven't got a clue of the age of my chooks I am only guessing
