Riala's Garden (image intense)
« on: May 09, 2009, 15:43 »
I have updated my blog, but I am aware many people might miss it, so here is my garden so far:

My Strawberries.

The tom's and some sprout seedlings.

The Sweetcorn and their personal mini-greenhouses.

Affectionately named "The Box" or the Square Foot Garden.

Finally, the Sweet peas.

All looking very good.  I started my square foot garden last weekend and was very excited to notice some seedlings in two of the squares!  Yours is great, when did you plant it?

The SFG was built on Sunday the 29th April, during that week I transfered my seedlings and sow'd some seeds.

Wow that has moved quickly then.  I will post some photos in a week or two of my SFG when I have more than a couple of green dots!

looks great Riala, one question though are they slug pellets in your strawberry planter?.
do they actually crawl over the coco fibre,or are they just a precaution.

Precaution, as the planter is by a wall and it is my first time with strawberries, I want nothing to get near them.

Although the blackbirds that are nesting in next doors chimney came down and starting ripping the basket to bits for their nest last week!

My son helps in the garden, rarely does he do anything bad with the plants or seeds.

Wow, it's come on incredibly since your last set of photos Riala, well done!

JMHO, but won't those cucs/squashes in square 9 maybe need a bit more room later, knowing how they sprawl?

How far apart are your corn plants, Riala?
(I'm not criticising, just genuinely interested from my own perspective)

Please do keep us posted, your progress is very interesting to those of us with limited growing room  :)

The sweetcorns are in 40cm (16inches) tubs, and there is a plant in each corner... hope that helps.

Grandad used to plant his in growbags in a row against a wall.  His plants would get around 5ft and had 6+ corn on each one.

I do not have any cucumbers or squashes in the SFG.
