Drought warning
« on: May 05, 2009, 21:18 »
Hi - as the rain falls and stops me getting to the lotty I thought you might be amused/interested to learn that apparently the Environment Agency North West issued a Potential Drought warning last week (only found out at a meeting today...)

apparently rainfall since February has been very low and many reservoirs are only at 40% capacity.

Perhaps 2 butts won't be enough... :)

Please!! Please!!! Please!!!! send some of your rain over this way. We have had no more than a few spots for over a month now. The ground is parched and only a hosepipe keeps my veggies alive.

What you need is to dig some clay into that free draining soil  ;)
It's all too much!

Take as much as you want, it's been raining all day here in (not so sunny) lancashire and looks set to do so for the next few days.

My plot in Coventry is really dry. I tried to turnover a patch at the bottom of the plot - it was like digging concrete and as I wasn't going to let it beat me so I am now suffering with a painfull knee - mind you limping into work  today still does not save me from the comments about mad gardeners :D :D :D

I think we've had one torrential downpour and a light sprinkling in probably over a month now. my lawn is looking a bit brown but I think I should also sharpen my mower blade :)

Dont moan about droughts - weather's been attrocious up here for the last week - one greenhouse has been seriously damaged by high winds, broad beans and sweet peas also getting bashed around, and I'm really worry about the seeds I direct-sowed a week ago, when I thought summer had arrived - is it possible for them to get washed away?!.  Its like blooming winter!
