Home made weed killers to kill ground elder ?
« on: April 25, 2009, 21:38 »
Is there a homemade weed killer you can use to kill ground elder. I can use a fork to fork it out of the borders but its in the old stone wall which I can't get to.

Is there any recipe anyone has for creating a spray to spray it ?

I have browsed the net and found that bleach is good and boiling water straight from the kettle and salt and maybe vinegar if its sunny,is any of this true and would boiling hot water be enough to kill it?

Thanks

have you tried one of them weed wand things has gas in it will burn them off, or you can buy a weed stick you rub onto them which contains a weedkiller.
all the things you mentioned may well work but like the weed wand will only kill the top growth, you'll need to be very persistent with ground elder.

I'd keep on diggin' it out., and hope that eventually you'll weaken it sufficiently for it to give it up  ::)

Thats where ours originally came from a dug a trench 12" deep along the fence and lined it down one side with damp proof membrane  to try stopping it. It did help quite a bit.

Did you have problems with it coming up between the fence and the DPM ?  I was considering doing this to try and keep the bindweed and creeping buttercup from next door at bay.

We had a little, but I stapled the dpm to the bottom of the fence so that seemed to help and we had to continually snap off any new growth that did pop up.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
