yeah i put my courgettes in last night , so must be doing something right.

good to see that woman on gardners world wasnt wearing that daft bandana round her neck again , we all thought maybe she had a scarred neck last week.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Here is my current solution to my sweetcorn problem.  They were too big for the plastic bottles and they are now covered in fleece which I will leave in place for a while unless watering.

Pegs? Great idea! Never thought of using them for that.

Yes pegs!  I put the canes in each corner.  Joined the canes with some garden wire and then pegged the fleece to the wire.  Also put some milk bottles/fizzy bottles filled with water at the bottom of the fleece to secure it there.

Will definitely keep you all posted.  I have a 'reserve' who are just poking their heads up too as I do not want to miss out on home grown sweetcorn this year!

I'm a newby to the allotments as we only got ours in February.  I planted my sweetcorn in pots and they are about 1 1/2 inches high now but are in the greenhouse - is this right?  When do you plant them out?  Do they taste a lot better than shop bought ones as I'm hoping they do?  I know its a lot of questions but I want them to do well.

Hey, you'll never buy another supermarket cob after you've grown and eaten your own Biddy, especially when you put it straight into the boiling water immediately after picking (sugars are converted to starch soon after picking and the longer you leave it, they don't taste as nice)  :D  :D :D

For Wigan area, I think you are looking at the back end of May before you can plant your sweetcorn outside, but allow a couple of weeks beforehand to start "hardening" them off  ;)
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.
