Our neighbours use dead weeds to cover the plants, but they weigh down the tomato plants and stop further growth.  Any suggestions as to what is best to use for shade cover?  What about the green woven sheeting stuff you can buy by the roll?

are these outside?  I'd have thought they would be fine without shade, but I suppose the woven sheeting would work well (a couple of years ago tried using it as a weed suppressant ... weeds grew very well thank you very much  )

Don't know about in Spain, but during 5 years in Greece i never saw, or grew, toms covered in anything...except enprmous toms

Come July and into August the temperature gets into the 40´s sometimes   So the plants merrily cook!  The other veg seems to be ok, it is just the toms that suffer.  I might have a go and covering some the ¨Spanish way´ with weeds and some with that green shade stuff- then I can see what is best.
