Leggy toms
« on: April 04, 2009, 15:11 »
Tomato seeds I planted 2 weeks ago are 3+ inches high. Minute stem and the normal two leaves. I don't recall ever having them like this before. An old hand on the plot suggested replanting them right up to the leaves.  Thoughts?

They'll grow more roots out from the buried stems.

Keep them on the dry side until they are ready for their final planting, you will then have nice sturdy plants instead of long leggy ones. I do the final planting when the first flower opens, the plant will then put it's energy into making flowers instead of roots, regular watering and high potash feed  should  commence at this stage.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

I have to say this!!!

Stick some aluminium foil behind them to reflect the light. This nearly doubles the amount of light they get & you'll get sturdier plants.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
