Thank you so much for all your replies! I found an older thread on this site about growing them from seed and how they often don't come "true". That's why I thought I ought to get plantlets.

I am now going to investigate all channels and report back. Oh, I'm in Farnham, Surrey

Can't remember where I got the seeds, but it would have been a garden centre or DIY store.

I agree with you; I would want offsets from a high-yielding plant (and I would be worried that plug Plants would just be seed-grown - offsets aren't exactly tiny!

The plants grow very large, of course, so it would need a lot of space to grow a load from seed and then be selective from the results :(

P.S. So then I thought I'd do a Google for F1 seed, and T&M have some - maybe that is the answer?

I've grown 3 plants from bog standard seed & they all produced decent artichokes, but maybe I've been lucky. Maybe F1 seeds would be a better idea.
