Right thicko here - If I plant cauliflower plants now when will they be ready to harvest I have never been lucky with them and had soem in all over winter and then put them in the veggie patch and they died - please advise me.

There are many different varieties which are for harvesting at different times.  I have some nearly ready for harvesting now.  What does it say on the seed packet and what variety are they ?

I was going to get all year round plants? to put in now

I have also sown the all-year-round sort (the seeds are just coming up now) and the packet says: sow Feb to May, harvest July to October, so I'm expecting them to be ready about September.
Last year I did a winter variety (can't remember the name) and have just finished harvesting them. I was amazed because I had never done them before and believed them to be very difficult, I had almost given up on them a few weeks ago and then the heads appeared very suddenly.

They are called Jerome and are for harvest in April.  Never grown them before and they are just starting to turn in and curd up.

Last sunday with our lunch we ate cauliflower from the plot,
this was All Year Round, planted out late last year as wee young sprog.
One of the few winter vedge that made it through the bad weather,
certainly glad it did..about 6-7 left.
Some more already about 3 inch high in cold GH and in a couple of
months time will certainly set some more going... and so on throught
the year......

For me the overwintered caulis that crop in April work the best - summer ones get caterpillars right inside.
The spring ones as already mentioned come at a very useful time when there is little else. 
2007/8 I grew Walcheren Winter 3 and it was superb - produced heads the size of dinner plates - 6 portions at least

I love cauliflower but mine never get the big heads, and the caterpillars allways get them.  just put some plants out to day  do you fold the leaves over to help them .maybe i should wait till  the late sowing .
