When I got my plot I used raised beds at the front but left the rest of the plot and grew in the normal way. Inthe two years between I didn't use raised beds at all. This year I've redesigned the plot with raised beds.

The reason I'm changing back is that my ploytunnel has three long beds 4ft bed 20ft long. They are just so productive as Ice said you can plant more in a smaller area as you use equal spacing in all directions. The beds outside are going to be 12ft long.

I would be very interested to find out what the best width is. I'm guessing 4ft but does anyone have 5ft wide - do you find they are too wide to manage. I was thinking 5ft beds would be better for when the beds are used for early potato's.

I have some spare polytunnel cover, so I was going to make some cloches so need the beds to be the same size.

Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

4ft is what is recommended, but if you can reach to the middle then why not use 5ft.
