Sorry if this has been asked before.....
Today I made a barter with a neighbour - all his pigeon muck when he cleans them out, in return for free veg in summer.
Can I ask how to use the muck? I was just going to leave it rot, but another gardener says I must mix it with water.....still let it rot for a year....and then use it as a liquid fertiliser/feed, well diluting the liquid first.
I was hoping to just dig it in, once rotted.
Can anyone please say if/how they've used it, and are both methods applicable?

if the pigeon muck was mine i would tip it onto my compost heap , if you use it straight away the foxes etc will dig up your plants , the fox dont know there isnt a burried pigeon under your plants , it happened to us 2 yrs ago ,

Very high in nitrogen apparently and will get you compost heap going a treat.
Might burn roots if used fresh

Layer of compostable materials, layer of pigeon poo, layer of compostable materials, pigeon poo ....

Great for getting the compost heap going. It acts as a brown material so you need to make sure you have lots of nice green material to go with it.

Oh and a good compost heap pays its way if you get one going ready for next year and use it for marrows and courgettes before you dig it into the soil as a conditioner.

I would have thought that pigeon manure would be high in ammonia and would act as a green ingredient for your compost?

I keep racing pigeons and I usually use the muck directly in the soil a few weeks before planting out. You rarely get poop in huge quantities as the birds are small and it takes a long time to get a buildup, most of which will have already been self-composting by the time the pile is cleaned out. As for any sort of bird diseases, all serious pigeon keepers will diligently watch their birds daily for any sickness as the birds are very valuable and sickness cannot be allowed to spread to the rest of the flock. Hundreds if not thousands of pounds can be lost this way in a week if left unchecked.
Pigeon manure is higher in nitrogen and is excellent as compost activator, raspberry and blueberry feed.
