He all - new here but almost finished building raised beds and waiting for bulk compost to be delivered to top 'em up.

I got a small electric propogator in the sales, and I know carrots and parsnips should normally  be planted direct - but how about other root crops like beetroot?   I have become fairly proficient at those brilliant newspaper pots (thanks Richy!) and wondered whether the larger seeds like beetroot or parsnips might be ok in these and then planted out without root disturbance ( can't be a*sed with carrot seed - too small for my old eyes to focus on) for an earlier first sowing.  I have a cold frame for hardening off courtesy of the last owner of the place.  And yes - I know it is too late for thinking of very early stuff but we not long moved in so it#'s a bit chaotic!

Also please are there any other groups that wont tolerate being planted on in paper pots or pricked out from trays?

beetroot can be transplanted but it really doesnt need to be ina heated propergator and to be honest its just as easy to so it direct.

some one on here does grow parsnips in this way but cant remember who i am sure they will be along soon.

everything else is ok to grow in pots and then plant out
