I remember reading somebody had a couple of courgette plants waiting in the wings in pots to go in once early spuds were lifted.

How about sweetcorn coupled with squashes?
Fastest growing would have to be spinach/radish type of thing.

If they're early spuds you could get winter brassicas in after..... as long as you feed the pots well you could grow just about anything that takes your fancy:) May need to juggle the follow up crops by moving into bigger pots if they need it before the spuds come out tho,

Nothing too hungry, as you dont want to exhaust the soil.  Im not growing earlies, but Id grow lettuces, salad leaves or spring caulies/cabbages

Be gentle with my daft questions please, I'm still learning, ........

Deffo outside Kagganz, But you'll need plenty of space. They will compete with early sweetcorn plants for light, whereas trailing squashes don't. ;)

I grew peas after my early pots - missed all the nasty grubs and had a good crop.

What you pop in next might depend on how you are organising your rotation....

I did stretch of dwarf borlotti beans... bit of a nitrogen fix and a crop of pods to hang up and dry if the weather shortened the lilfecycle

That was me!  I follow early spuds with courgettes and sweetcorn.  Courgettes are hungry as are potatoes so be warned.  Traditionally early spuds are followed by leeks.
