I did the survey.  Like others, I freeze what I can.  I also make jams, sauces and chutneys.

How true Paddy.

You can't make a silk purse from a sows ear and if the government wants more young people to go to university, by definition, standards WILL fall  :(

Now there's a can of worms - let's keep this on growing or i'll call a mod  ;)

Oh naughty Aunty !!!  Sorry all.

But having worked in secondary education for many years and having relatives working in higher education also for many years I supose I can see a big change  :(

I am reminded of the history graduate I met who had no interest in current affairs.  He was working as a quality controller in a fruit-packing plant.

Oh dear.  As my son will start Uni shortly perhaps I should tell him not to bother?  :(

My son went to an awful "media and arts" academy school in Hackney.  He is now in his second year at uni and he is having a great time and has grown up a lot.  During this awful recession/depression it is the best place to be.  Hopefully, by the time they graduate things will be improving.

Luckily for him and me he is a hard worker, and a distinction student.  I would encourage any child to further their education, unfortunately its not always suitable for every child and clearly so at some point along the line.  They do need our support to do the best they can.

I think hes lucky, he has known what career he wanted since he was tiny. Its made him focus much more on his results IMO.  My oldest one is a trained mechanic but hated it, even with the goodish money.  Hes now gone back to college to study sports and is aiming to take a sports science degree next year. Its a shame he didnt know what he wanted to do earlier  :(  as hes back to being a skint student foe the second time!
