Getting the Spuds in
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:19 »
When's the earliest we can plant the spuds, trying to be more organised than our first season which started April last year when we got the allotment

Regards

Davie

There are quite a few threads already of planting spuds, if you do a quick search.

I started planting mine in late March last year, but the late frost nipped them!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I am not far away. I like to risk just a few earlies as soon as the soil is workable in March. These will need looking after, earthing up to start with and fleece when the tops get bigger, to protect them from frost. Some planted 5th March last year gave the first digging in the first week in June. I do have very light soil.

All the rest go in late March / early April when the soil has warmed up.
