Polytunnel Thought
« on: January 27, 2009, 11:26 »
Apologies if this is posted in thew wrong section.

I have five raised beds in my garden each measuring 4ft x 10ft.
I don;t have a greenhouse though and my wife is not keen on taking up more space in the garden or spending too much money.

I wondered how feasible and sensible it would be to convert one or two of the beds into polytunnels??

Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

Oh perfect.
I'd not even considered something so wide but that makes perfect sense.
I could build a large one to cover two beds and be able to walk down the middle of them!!

Thanks so much for the link!

That's brill Richy and as OH is a builder he is bound to have these bits lying around.  :nowink: :nowink:
So after he has built me a shed, a trellis for my sweet peas, a bean frame, covers for my cabbages and 101 other things I can show him this.  ::)

Hmm, how would you reach the far side of the beds then?
Interesting discussion of it here, as well as Geoff Hamilton's, which I was going to mention. They showed it again on GW before Christmas. Got me thinking ;)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

this is a smaller version, perhaps what you were originally thinking of.

Trillium posted this link recently:

This bloke has greenhouse/polytunnel things that fit over his raised beds.  If you beds are all the same size, then you're not fixed as to which is is the greenhouse/polytunnel every year.
