You really need a maximum/minimum thermometer. And I do mean need. It's fine knowing what the temp is when you walk into the greenhouse, but you need to know how cold & hot it's getting for ventilation/heating purposes.

I got a nice one for just under a tenner from Homebase.

I think this is the link, but I can't get the picture to display at the moment on either browser.

Thermometer

It displays the temperatures both using a conventional mercury "U" shaped glass and also digitally underneath in big numbers for those like me with failing eyesight!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Not sure what you mean by "any good".

It tells you the max & min temp and that's what you need!

As I can't get the website piccies to display, here's mine...

Not quite as I remembered it!

The two glass thermometers show you the current temperature. One for degrees F and one for degrees C. Why they didn't keep costs down & use one tube with a scale either side is beyond me.

The max & min are displayed digitally underneath. Not sure when I reset it last, but you can clearly see I've had nor frost in there since I did!

They're not that expensive really.

I had one of the old mercury ones for years, the type that pushed a marker to the temperature and you reset it by pushing a magnet. Was OK until I dropped it and the mercury thread split up and I couldn't tap it back together!

Cheap in B & Q
Hey - I have the same Max/Min thermometer as Mr. Tom Head (moderator...whooo) and it was £6 in B & Q a week or so back..amongst the "half price sundries" they have had in the gardening section - I've had about 10 black weed covering tarps, plant labels and polythene, all half price.

V pleased with the M/M thermometer, recorded -9C here overnight a week or so back no problem, is currently reading a cosy 23C inside...mmm
